Established in 1883 as a railroad town,
Cape Charles lies at very nearly
the southern most tip of the Eastern Shore peninsula.

The view of Cape Charles from above is amazing.
I really do understand why people want to live here.

Welcome to
Cape Charles, Virginia

An old abandoned '40s gas station/oil company/gallery building
stands firm on the road to the 'new', upwardly mobile Cape Charles
Soon to be a sales office

Things seen on the road into Cape Charles

A strange water tower, an 'under restoration' turn of the century train station,
the Cape Charles museum and two mermaids.

As always, most photos 'clickable' for enlargement

The 'old' rubs elbows with the 'new'.

Nothing like a yard sale for 'keepin it real'.
And a town with a little league and guys stoppng to talk
can't be all bad, right?

Transportation is a wonderful thing

Here we have some cars from the old Eastern Shore Railway, and ...

... the Philadelphia Star and the Southern Comfort out of Roanake, Virginia.
I don't know if these old timers will live out their final days here in Cape Charles. But for now, it is the 'end of the line' for them.
Just found out something cool. At least two of the train cars, Southern Comfort being one of them, have been outfitted as summer homes.
Gotta love it!

Click on Southern Comfort photo to see
the refurbished car done in 2008 by the owner, Mr. Cecil Doss
And there are houses (beautiful houses), churches and a fire department.
The house in the photo below has just been sold and, hopefully, soon it will be beautiful again like the other renovated homes in town.

And in 'downtown' Cape Charles,
we have 'turn of the century', 'turn of the century', 'turn of the century' and newly redone.
And they seem to be living quite well, in harmony, side by side.

And at the end of this street from the past.... the Chesapeake Bay

This just in!! Take a good look at the dolphin.
It has now been trashed by kids whose parents' lessons evidently didn't stick!
Maybe they'll stick now!
